How Your Own View of Reality Shapes Communication Goals
第二章:按个人对事实的看法由内心搭建出沟通目标
Leaders who understand their world can explain their world. That is principle that makes mental models important to communication. Mental models of how the world works (or is supposed to work) help us to size up situations and formulate our goals for communicating. This enables us to decide what and how we choose to frame.
对所处的客观世界知其然的领导者才能解释好其世界之所以然。这是一个原则,它使沟通的思维模式显得重要。关于世界如何运作(或假设它如何运作)的思维模式有助于人们了解形势并制定沟通目标,确定语言描述内容并选择方法。
Many people in organizations treat goal setting as a yearly activity in which they produce written statements about the results they intend to accomplish over the coming year. But this is not the only kind of goal setting. While we set goals for the tasks or results that we intend to achieve, we also set relationship and identity goals. And we can achieve most of these task, relationship, and identity goals through our communications.
组织中多数人都将制订目标看成是一年一次的活动,制订时都将来年要完成的目标写成书面说明。其实,制订目标并不仅此而已。在制订人们要完成的任务或预期结果时,人们也在建立关系和特别目标,所有的目标任务、关系以及特别目标都可以通过沟通来实现。
This chapter confuses on the communication goals that are necessary to reach these three broader categories of goals. It also focuses on the important role of mental models in formulating our communication goals. As we will later learn, when we develop our mental models and become more aware of our communication goals, we increase our influence. Rather than deny ourselves the opportunity to be truly effective by relying on makeshift or flimsy models, we can strengthen our mental models. We can develop and use frames that are strong enough to support our communication goals.
本章将集中讲述实现上述三类广泛目标时所必备的沟通目标以及思维模式在制订沟通目标时所起的重要作用。在学习如何开发思维模式并对沟通目标有意识后,就能学到如何提高人的影响力。不想否定自己的话可以增强思维模式的磨练,真正有效的机会靠临时抱佛脚或依赖几个典型例子是站不住脚的,我们可以开发利用可强有力支撑沟通目标的语言描述。
